There is some truth to this. However, you may be creating a habit that becomes associated with a task.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;Example: How often to you go to the movies and don't buy popcorn? Do you eat popcorn when you go shopping or while cleaning the bathtub? &lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Snacking can create habits that make you want to eat certain foods when you are not even hungry. This can result in over eating. If you want to prevent eating too much at meals don't spread your meals out too far. If you have lunch at noon and dinner at 7:00pm you will probably eat more than you need. Try eating your meals about four hours apart and no more than five. By doing this you will need to eat four meals a day. Right? Well , forget setting crazy goals. Focus on making some small improvements from last year. I always see so many people in the gym from January 1 through February 28. That is usually as long as those commitments last.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Most is this lack of commitments is because goals are set to lose a certain amount of weight. Without a plan to do so, you will see very little result or reach your goal and then quit. Set goals to &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exercise"&gt;exercise&lt;/a&gt; more and eat less. Give up a food that you normally eat a lot of and replace it with a leaner healthier food. Commit to exercising three times a week. However, it's hard to loose the fat to show off the abdominal muscles that lie underneath. Too often we feel like we can get that washboard look from doing crunches and situps. Limit the amount of cookies, brownies, and cake that you eat.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Eat a healthy snack before going to the Christmas parties. There have been so many times that I would go out to eat and have an appetizer, entree, drink, and dessert. I may sit down and have a 1200-1800 calorie meal! That is crazy for one meal. But when you are 22 years old and work out 3-4 hours a day it is no big deal. But when you are in your mid 30s and get to workout 3-4 hours a week, those calories can build up. So I started drinking lots of water before I eat. This helps me to feel full much faster and prevents me from over eating. Give it a try. Drink two glasses of water before you eat and see if you don't start eating less over a period of time. However, exercise and proper nutrition are two things that you can not afford to give up. When you feel that you don't have time, make the time. Just don't make the decision to not do anything. Get a jump rope and use it for 4-5 minutes.
